WRAP FACS Facial Setup Demo

WRAP FACS Facial Setup Demo from Puppeteer Lounge on Vimeo.

Here is the breakdown demo of the facial rig we prepared at Puppeteer Lounge for the new WRAP FACS Facial Setup training workshop. The model here is my wife and Puppeteer Lounge’s co-founder Sachina Shakya! It was a fun project ๐Ÿ™‚

This breakdown demo showcases believable facial setup based on Facial Action Coding System. Learn photogrammetry to 3D scan a face and integrate it to the pipeline for CGI animation creating your very own digital double. Learn to extract facial expression based on FACS from 3D scans. Make it compatible for 3D workflow and create a rig based on it. Learn to create automated maps for wrinkles, blood flow, roughness compression/stretching and fine facial details. The motion capture ready FACS based facial rig is compatible with game engines and films.

Learn to setup believable facial rig at Puppeteer Lounge with WRAP FACS Facial Setup training workshop program!

Newton as Shadow Dan

Puppeteer Lounge’s morphing cartoon character Newton as Shadow Dan!! Sachina Shakya did a great job with the animation, it was so much fun! I did the lighting, rendering, compositing and of-course the rigging. Modeling and texturing by our talented artist Nadim Shakya. Many thanks to Rune Bennicke who did the original pencil test of Shadow Dan. Watch it here. This was truly a fun learning experience for all of us ๐Ÿ™‚

Hyper Real Facial Setup Demonstration

Here is a quick video demonstration showcasing
the facial rig that I created and taught to students for Puppeteer Lounge’s Hyper Real Facial Setup training
workshop. The rig features a combination of musculo-skeletal
deformation and corrective shapes. You can also see the rig being
driven by the facial motion capture performance which is covered in
Puppeteer Lounge’s Facial Motion Capture Setup workshop.

Student Animation Snippet Exercise

The
principles of animation have been laid down by Disney Animators Frank
Thomas and Ollie Johnston in the โ€œIllusion of life โ€ in 1981.

Some more concepts have been added over the years and one of the most
important addition, or clarification, is the concept of โ€œweight shiftโ€.

Here is a quick animation snippet by student Rajson Shakya.

Overlapping
Action is another of the cornerstones of animation. By overlapping the
actions of a characters’ body, hair, tail, clothing or for this
exercise, the arm; your animation will feel more fluid and life-like!

Here is a quick animation snippet by student Niroj Karmacharya.

Jomboo Rig Demo

Rig demo of the new ball character “Jomboo”from Puppeteer Lounge. Character design by Sachina Shakya.

P.S. I keep mentioning the character as a “he”. Well there is a “she” version of the character as well which can be toggled from main character which I forgot to go over. And yes “Amplify” == “Exageration” ๐Ÿ˜‰
