Python Workshop

Learn to code and create your very own tool sets, speed up your workflow using the power of Python! We offer 2 flexible workshops that are 10-12 weeks each! Our workshops are designed for all levels of programmers and technical artists. Below is the summary of all available workshops!

“Introduction to Python and Tool Development”

Students will be introduced to the programming language Python and how it is integrated within Autodesk Maya. This course covers the basic fundamentals of programming in python, leaving them with the knowledge to produce production ready tools and take this knowledge into other programs and fields. The students will focus on using the maya.cmds module to create their tools for this workshop.

Class Detail

  • Project 1: Configure Maya Tool
    • The student will build a tool that returns information about the user’s system, Maya version, and environment paths and be able to set custom environment variables and settings to customize Maya.
  • Project 2: Focus Specific (Modeling, Rigging, Animating, etc.) Tool
    • The student will pitch an idea for a tool to help them out during their day-to-day task and will develop this idea in the final 4 classes. Example Projects  students could produce through this course include but not limited too:
      • An Auto Rigging Solution
      • A Pose & Animation Transfer System
      • A Render Layer Managing System
      • A Focus Specific (Modeling, Lighting, Rigging, etc.) Tool-Set

Fee

  • $300 for the Offline (pre-recorded) Workshop

Target Audience

  • Anyone with an interest in CG who wants to develop their technical skills further.
  • No previous experience with Python is required but it is helpful.

“OOP (Object-Oriented Programming) Tool Development”

Students will be introduced to object-oriented programming in python. This course will cover topics such as classes, metadata, inheritance, and  regular expressions, leaving them with the knowledge to produce production ready tools and take this knowledge into other programs and fields. The students will focus on using the pymel module to create their tools for this workshop.

Class Detail

  • Project: Auto Rigger Tool
    • The student will build a basic modular rig builder with a flexible code base that is easy to develop further . This tool will only focus on simple rigging techniques and but leave room for the student to update the code base to add new features to meet their needs. The basic rig features we will work on are:
      • Utility Functions(double grouping, renaming, etc.)
      • Control Creation
      • FK Systems
      • IK Systems
      • IK-Fk System

Fee

  • $360 for the Offline (pre-recorded) Workshop

Target Audience

  • Anyone with an interest in CG who wants to develop their technical skills further.
  • Previous experience with Python is required.

MarcoGiordano

Marco currently works at Double Negative, London as a Creature TD. Prior to working at DNEG, he worked as a Character TD for Rainbow CGI, Trixter and many more where he lead and created pipeline tools, auto rig tools and plugin development on top of character and creature rigging.
